He steps out among the stars,
And sees the cloudy blue and green sphere-
He once called home.
Dust kicks up as he moves forward-
White and Ashy.
Lights swirl and the sky opens,
To reveal an ethereal figure floating down;
Her hand outstretched.
She is beautiful-
A goddess.
The space explorer faces a choice-
Offered by the woman,
Dressed in moonbeams and starlight.
To discover cosmos, wander the galaxy,
To disappear among the universe.
He looks out upon his old world,
Thinking of all he will leave behind.
Faces spin out through his mind-
And memories reel behind his eyes.
Mother, Sister, Daughter, Wife.
He pauses.
Studying the ground beneath him-
Crater torn and dry.
Thinking hard about his choices-
Forgotten dreams, regrets, responsibilities, and love.
She waits patiently, this guardian of the moon.
A harbinger of change,
She understands his caution.
He reaches out with a jerk and clasps her hand.
